AI brings massive employment opportunities to mankind.
Working behind the scenes- AI has a new competitor: Humans.
AI is all the rage nowadays, and US Investment in 2022 alone amounted to $15B; But it's not just chip makers and researchers that are making hay. The boon in AI has given rise to yet another industry: Pseudo AI.
Confused? Read on.
"Vast avenues are opening up for those who can type or edit photos really fast." says the Dean of Human Resource Studies- Professor ממזר-גמור of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. "When you look at AI search queries, you can see that it's all about speed, not quality. People are so used to consuming low-brow content on the internet that the bar for acceptable material is almost non-existent. Take a look at "A pizza eating hamster on a Hawaiian beach " which is a prime example of text-to-image AI. It doesn't say much for the average human’s level of discernment but it represents a great business opportunity for those willing to capitalise on it."
We were given a tour around the Professor's research hub where hundreds of corporate-sponsored young test subjects were busy hammering at keyboards and clicking on mouses, frantically issuing responses to AI requests. The noise was so intense that we were required to wear ear muffs. "One of our biggest overheads here is keyboards and mouses.” says the Professor “A keyboard is lucky to last a week, and a mouse maybe a day or two. The test subject turnover is also quite significant- We have a challenging burnout factor to contend with.
Our on-site medical team specialises in carpal tunnel syndrome, and we can usually get people back to work quickly after they initially seize up, but there is a limit to how much the fingers and wrists can take. After a couple of relapses, unfortunately we have to let them go. It's tough." said the Professor "We recommend that hiring companies don't get too sentimental about their people. On the other hand, look at the experience these employees are getting. It's an invaluable addition to any CV. Besides we also have more upcoming employment opportunities in areas such as mining and cleaning- Once they’ve fully regained the use of their limbs. We know it’s important that people feel like they’re contributing." he says with a smile. "Who knows, perhaps humans can win back more of the ground we have lost to those infernal machines."
That’s certainly food for thought.
