Dublin On Saint Patrick's Day

The Irish are so welcoming.
What nicer way to spend Saint Patricks Day in Ireland than to camp out in the open air of Mount Street? For those adventurous enough to sample the ambience of inner city Dublin (but on the posher south side), there are treats aplenty. In their boundless generosity, the taxpayers of Ireland have donated free tents, food, and makeshift sanitary facilities to visitors from all around the globe.
However, unfortunately,
On this St. Patrick’s Day the dreams of 100 young men were stolen when an order was given* requesting that the tent organisers “Get those f*cking tents out of there pronto.” followed by “Do you want the world to know Ireland is slowly turning into Mogadishu? What do you think this will do to our tourist trade?” There is an important added context to all of this, in that there have already been well-publicised muggings/ stabbings/ rapes of tourists in the same general area last August, and let’s not forget the well-known stabbing of two children outside their school just across the river by an Algerian visitor last December.
So, what happened to the makeshift tent city dwellers?
They were dropped off in Crooksling in the Dublin mountains, but, in an unfortunate case of systematic oversight, they were not provided with food or shelter, so they promptly started a long trek back to Dublin city centre by foot to try their luck again.
Why were they moved?
Leo Varadkar, Ireland’s unelected gay Indian prime minister stated categorically that the move had nothing to do with clearing slums for photogenic purposes on St. Patrick’s Day. They were moved for “health and safety reasons” that coincidentally arose exactly one day before the annual festival.
When will the Irish just get out of Ireland and let everyone else enjoy St. Patrick’s Day?
The Irish might be welcoming but let’s face it- Not welcoming enough. It’s time that Paddy made room for the rest of the world by just moving somewhere else. Or simply disappearing.
